General notes
The rear of the old Parsonage, which faced Infant Street, originally an old farm, and the home of a branch of the Walmsley family in the 16th century. In 1772 a pew in St James' Church was allotted to Heifer Bank, then occupied by James Walmsley. There were Walmsleys living in Accrington long before that most famous person of the name Judge Walmsley settled at Dunkenhalgh. We came across the name in 1500. From the directory of 1845, we find that John Barnes, boot and shoe maker, occupied one of the old cottages.
