General notes

The Hendon Room and Power Company of Nelson, Horizontal Three Cylinder Triple Expansion Engine. Made by William Roberts and Company of Phoenix Foundry in Nelson in 1900. This was a rare case two similar concerns had the same unusual type of engine, but made at different times by different makers. The coreless trip gear was fitted with the early Roberts oscillating dash pots, but otherwise it was a straight Roberts design which gave heavily loaded service, latterly with another shed section added. The mill was closed in the 1960s re-organizing scheme and all was scrapped. All three of the cylinders were re-bored later.
