General notes
Mr. Hacking of Colne was one of the last handloom weavers in about 1910. Each family would run their own loom in Lomeshaye 200 years ago. Father sitting at his stool, working the treadle with his feet, throwing the shuttle from side to side by hand. His wife operated the spinning wheel. Pieces about 50 yards long were made in a week, often well into the night by candle light. They would walk to Colne Cloth Hall which opened in 1775, with their finished cloth, and received something like 4/6d for a weeks work .
