General notes
Originally the property of the Marriott family (Quaker family). Estate purchased 1867 by William Tunstill, on whose death it passed into possession of his son Harry, who resided there with his family and brother Robert until 1914, when the entire estate was purchased by the Corporation, in 1915.
During the 1st World War it was used as an auxiliary military hospital.
From 1919 onwards it was used for treatment of civilian patients.
