General notes
This image was presented by Nelson Council Surveyors Department. Taken from Market Square, it shows the rear of the Market Hall following the fire on 11th March 1932. Built in 1890 H Tunstill JP later funded the addition of the clock tower. The building was so badly damaged by fire it was demolished and a temporary Market Hall was built on the same site within a year. This temporary structure remained in use until the late 1960's when the market traders moved to the new market at the Arndale Centre. The Market Hall was demolished and the current Public Library built on the site.
