Christopher Towneley 1603 - 1674.
Grandson of "John the Saint" known as "The Great Transcriber". He pursued his studies throughout the Civil War. Spent most of his life collecting material for a history of Lancashire (30 volumes), to which Dr Whittaker's "History of Whalley" was much indebted. He lived at Carr Hall, Nelson.
