General notes
Mr. Gilbert Keighley, architect, presenting a silver cake stand to Mrs. Mary Lizzie Hedges.
The extension to the Nurses Home was opened on 16th July 1925, providing much needed new accommodation for 40 nurses at Primrose Bank Infirmary ( and "workhouse"). The opening was performed by Mrs. Mary Lizzie Hedges, Chairman of the Board of Guardians.
The ceremony was chaired by Mr. T. Ridehalgh also a member of the Board of Guardians, who praised the Christian motivation behind the institution "caring for the sick, whether in body or mind, providing shelter, food and comfort for the destitute and the homeless".

There were several speakers, including the Clerk, Mr. Purton, who detailed the costs which had amounted to £12,000, which the Guardians had borrowed to repay over 10 years. There were many complimentary remarks made about Mrs. Hedges. Primrose Bank eventually became the Burnley General Hospital.
