General notes

Land for recreation grounds was purchased by Nelson Local Board from Mr Every-Clayton in 1886. Part of this area (8 acres) became Victoria Park. Further land, on the western side of Pendle Water, was purchased in 1896 and the two areas were linked by a bridge.
The houses in the background are on Park Avenue, which runs along the north-western edge of the park. On the left (No 32) is at the bottom of Bedford Street.
