General notes

Land for recreation grounds was purchased by Nelson Local Board from Mr Every-Clayton in 1886. Part of this area (8 acres) became Victoria Park. Further land was purchased in 1896 and then, in 1897, a third area was purchased for a boating lake. Pendle Water flows past the boating lake and this bridge spans the river there.
