General notes
The mayor unveils a plaque where the Ferndean Way footpath enters Ball Grove Country Park. The footpath runs for approximately 3 miles between Wycoller and the Waterside area of Colne. Ball Grove was the site of the Sagar Brothers tannery which opened in 1860. At its peak the tannery employed over 300 men and required 100,000 gallons a day of water for the tanning process. The tannery closed in 1970 and the buildings began to be demolished in 1974. The lodges were retained, one for fishing and the other to provide a wetland nature reserve.
