General notes

The Corporation's first electricity power plant, on Leeds Road, was built in 1889. With increased demand a larger plant was required and in 1902 a new works on Charles Street opened. In the 1920's newer, more efficient equipment was installed to keep up with demand. The company was nationalised in 1948.
