The White Walls Inn was demolished to make way for the Whitewalls Drive link road to the M65 from Burnley Road. Work began on the link road in 1986 and the car (Vauxhall Chevette) in the photograph has a number plate indicating registration in 1980-81. In 1971 the licensee of the White Walls Hotel was Mary Ann Dickinson.
