General notes
Land for 'recreation grounds' was purchased by Nelson Local Board from Mr Every-Clayton under recently acquired powers in 1886. Victioria park was created using 8 acres of this land. More land was acquired in 1896 and then, in 1897, a further area was acquired for a 'boating lake'. A 'grotto' subway led beneath Carr Road to connect the lake area to the rest of the park. .
