Dale House, as evidenced by the image, is set upon the small. narrow road from Slaidburn to the village of Clapham. The roadways northwards bifurcate in Slaidburn, with the left hand road leading broadly north to the west of what is now Stocks Reservoir (and which was once Dalehead), and the right hand road heading north east towards Tosside. The road in this image leaves the Tosside road at Lower Stony Bank leads through Gisburn Forest and rises steeply over Coat Rakes Bridge over Hasgill Beck, seen in the foreground, to Dale House.
