General notes
Cowark is a hamlet set around the junction of the roads from Clitheroe via Bashall Eaves to the south east, the old roman route towards Doeford Bridge and the Ribble Hodder to the south west, the road leading north-west to Dunsop Bridge and the north-easterly road to Newton and points north. A sharp bend in the approach road from Clitheroe crosses a bridge above a deep, wooded gulley cut by Cow Ark Brook on its way too join the River Holder below Doeford Bridge. This image is taken in that gulley with the waterfall under the arch of the bridge evident in the background.
