Lodge Mill was built in 1863 on Barden Lane. Its name was taken from the farm on the other side of the canal. The mill was heavily damaged by fire in 1905 and a smaller replacement was built in its place. The mill famously produced Grenfell cloth, which was developed by Walter Haythornthwaite for use in cold climates, mainly in the manufacture of tents. After being used for various other purposes, the mill was demolished in 2015.
