General notes
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was started in France in 1833. St. Vincent de Paul was a Catholic priest who dedicated himself to serving the poor and the society set up in his name had the same objective. Members of the society would voluntarily give aid to disadvantaged members of their community.
This photograph depicts St. John's R.C. Church's St. Vincent de Paul's Society on a procession. The exact location of the photograph is unknown, but the man at the front of the procession is believed to be a former parish priest Farther William Shine.
