The Griffin Hotel was located on Rossendale Road. It opened in 1856, just a few months before the municipal cemetery, which is located on the opposite side of the road. It remained in use as a hotel until the late 1990's, when it became a beauty salon. Rather fittingly, given its location, it changed its use again a few years later to become a funeral parlour.
