Born in 1886, Edith was the chairperson of the Burnley and District Hospital Management Committee. Not only did she hold this role but she was on the local education board and worked on a number of other health committees in the Manchester area.

This photograph of her was taken in 1960 when she received her O.B.E. at Buckingham Palace for her work in local health and education. To her right are her grandson and her son. Her grandson David, became a doctor and later opened the Edith Watson maternity unit at the General Hospital. Edith passed away in 1963 aged 77.
