General notes
The Whitendale Valley is a beautiful but isolated and rarely-visited part of the Forest of Bowland. The Whitendale River has its main source on White Hill but is further fed by streams running off White Hill to the north east and the Brown Sykes terrain to the west. It then makes its way southwards, past the village of Whitendale, then between Dunlop Fell on the east and Middle Knoll, to meet the Brennand River in the woodland north of Dunlop Bridge to form the Dunlop River. Just south of Dunsop Bridge these waters merge with, and enlarge the River Hodder, then proceeds past Whitewell towards the confluence with the River Ribble.. This image is part of a series that illustrates the Whitendale River's course from north to south before its meeting with the Brennand.
