General notes

The foundation stone of Burnley police headquarters was laid in 1952. The site of the new station had been previously used as the town's cattle market. This photograph was taken in 1954, a year later the station opened for business. Previously the police had been housed in various locations around the town including, Keighley Green and the town hall. The new headquarters not only housed the police force, but also Burnley Magistrates' Court. This area also became home to the bus station (foreground).
