A photograph dating from the late Victorian period of Market Street at its junction with St. James's Street. The tobacconists shop on the left belonged to Abraham Ratcliffe, which changed hands shortly after the picture was taken. Further down Market Street was John Dixon Gutteridge's stationary shop. All the buildings in the photograph were demolished at various points during the 20th century.
