Henry Watson, originally from Skipton, opened his first cabinet makers and upholsters on Manchester Road in the 1870's. He employed six men and five boys and when they were old enough his two sons also became involved in the business. Over the next two decades the shop moved to other locations around the town, including this one, which was also its final known location, on the corner of Market Street and Standish Street in c1896.
