General notes

The only surviving building from this busy scene is the Red Lion Inn (centre). Duckworth's tabaconists, Eastwood's offices and Holdsworth's butchers were all demolished in the 1920's to make way for the Savoy cinema and cafe. The shops that can be seen on St. James's street were also demolished during a town centre redevelopment.
