General notes
Built as the Admiralty 'Castle' class trawler DANIEL CLOWDEN. 1919 Brought to Fleetwood registration (FD280). 1922 Renamed HANNAH WOODBRIDGE. 1928 Sold to Iago Steam Trawlers Ltd and her name reverted to DANIEL CLOWDEN (LO129). In June 1930, the Daniel Clowden left Fleetwood for the Klondyke fishing grounds. When shooting the net the fore-warp got stuck in the rudder. Then the aft-warp became entangled in the propeller. The crew radioed the ships owner and the trawler Peter Carey was sent to assist them. They steamed slowly to Immustrahus in Northern Ireland and in shallow water they were able to free the rudder and propeller. Following this incident, the Daniel Clowden once again headed for the fishing grounds. After fishing for four days there was a loud explosion in the engine room at 2am. The second engineer had a badly scalded foot, but he used a donkey pump and saved the fireman. The trawler drifted in the Atlantic until the Peter Carey towed the stricken vessel 300 miles until a tug took her into dock from the Wyre Light. In service as a mine-sweeper from 1939-1945. 1945 To Haven Trawlers Ltd (FD280). Bought by Marr's on 13/08/1948 for 13,698 pounds. On 27/11/1952 the trawler sank at her mooring at Fleetwood's North End Quay due to a sea cock being left open down below. She was raised the following weekend after being pumped out by the salvage tug 'Ranger'. She was taken back to Wyre Dock for damage assessment. It was decided she was too badly damaged and she would need to be scrapped. 13/12/1952 Sold to the British Iron & Steel Corporation for scrapping.
