This photograph of St. James's Street was taken in the day of the horse and cart, from outside the shops in the row between Chancery Street and Market Street. Looking towards Westgate, we can make out the ownership of the two shops on the near right. The nearest belonged to William Walton who was a boot maker. Next door to William's shop was a corset makers, run by a Mrs J. Catton.
