General notes
The war memorial at Huncoat was unveiled and dedicated on the 29th April 1922 by local dignitaries. It stands in the recreation ground on Burnley Lane and is described as four-stepped base surmounted by a celtic cross. It was erected by public subscription and lists the names of 25 local men who lost their lives in the First World War. In 1936 the memorial was blown over in a gale and the cross broke. In 1939 the original railings around it were removed. Also inscribed are the names of 6 men who died in the Second World War.
