General notes
In the 1920's, it was decided by Burnley Corporation, that a major new road was required which would link Colne Road with Todmorden Road and the area around Turf Moor. This development was known as the Northern Arterial Road and it involved building new roads from scratch, like Eastern Avenue and redeveloping existing roads, like the one seen here. These roads all linked together, creating a major traffic route around the town centre.

An unfortunate consequence of this road building exercise can be seen here. Due to the new layout, the bottom corner of Queen's Park had to be cut off from the main body, so that the new road could connect with Belvedere Road.
