General notes
Methodism in the Lowerhouse area dates back to 1798. Early services were conducted in s cottage opposite Victoria Terrace. When the Dugdale family purchased the estate they built a room adjoining the mill from where services were held. The first purpose built chapel was constructed on land donated by the Dugdales' in 1877. However, it was later felt that the building would be better used as a school, so a new chapel was commissioned.
This new chapel (pictured here) opened in June 1898. It later changed its name to Greenbrook Methodist Church and was moved to new premises in c1985.
