General notes

This incarnation of St. Johns, located on Ivy Street, was opened on 2nd May 1909 and replaced an earlier building constructed in 1893 that was no longer fit for purpose. Here, one can see the magnificent altar that was taken away in the 1960's. The reredos on the altar was made of coloured alabaster and pictured the Annunciation, the Nativity, the Resurrection and the Ascension. It also had a carved canopy and spire with a carving of St. John the Baptist attached to it.
