General notes
The foundations of Methodism in the area started in 1878, after a delegation from the nearby Fullege chapel secured premises in an unused corner shop. These premises were soon found to be too small and land was secured on Brooklands Road (pictured here) where Brooklands Road Methodist Chapel opened in 1883.

In 1961 it merged with Rehoboth Chapel and became known as Towneley Chapel. By 2001 numerous problems with the building led to an amalgamation with the Colne Road and Elim congregations to form the United Methodist Church. Services moved to a new chapel on Briercliffe Road and the old Brooklands Road chapel was taken over by a local business and converted in to offices.
