Taken around 1900, here we can see a number of people, mainly women, gathered outside the Plane Tree. The man on the far left of the picture is Mr James Wilkinson, who was the landlord at the time. The Pub was located on what was then called Back Lane. Back Lane later became part of Rossendale Road. Massey's closed the Plane Tree on 17 Dec. 1939 and the next day opened a new pub the New Albion directly adjacent after which the Plane Tree was to be demolished.
