A group of local children and patrons gather outside the Rose and Crown on Manchester Road to have their photograph taken. One of the participants was probably the incumbent land lord at the time, William Ormerod.

The pub dates from the 1870's and until 1914 it only had a licence as a beer-house. When it gained its full licence the pub was also rebuilt.
