A photograph of Higher Ridge Cottages on Ridge Avenue. The cottage dates back to c1620. It is located at one end of the Ridge and was home to the toll collector, who would collect money from the passing traders. This continued up until c1928, when the road came under the maintained of Burnley Corporation, who improved the surface and widened it.
