A copy of a pencil sketch by G. Evans of St. Peter's Church and the old market cross stump and stocks at the junction between what is now Church Street and Ormerod Road.

A church has been located on the site of St. Peters since at least 1100. The oldest part of the current church is the tower. Its foundations are probably Norman, but the tower itself dates from c1460. The main body of the church dates from c1533. In 1789 the south aisle was added, followed in 1802 by an extension to the tower.
