General notes

The construction of the combined courts centre started in September 1992 at an estimated cost of £15 million; however by the time it was completed in 1995 it had actually cost £25 million. The architects were Austin, Smith, Lord of Warrington and the construction company was McAlpine. It was hoped that the Queen would open the building on 3rd July at an official opening ceremony, but she couldn't due to a bureaucratic mix up over her diary. The court was open for business on Monday 24th July 1995, and official opening ceremony is mentioned in the Lancashire Evening Post on 3rd February 1996.
