General notes
"1907-12 by Briggs, Wolstenholme and Thornley. 'Much more striking than any other Nonconformist church in North Lancashire at this time. It stands out by size, by colour by style, only not alas by quality' was Pevsner's comment. The exterior lacks refinement but it is redeemed by the assertive design and daring choice of material (white faience slabs). A sort of Byzantine or South-West French Romanesque, though the details are rather in the Edwardian baroque."
