General notes
"By Thomas Bird & Son of Manchester. A sumptuous facade with two giant Corinthian columns in antis and massive details. Mighty bracketed cornice and a balustraded parapet with urns. The large central entrance with segmented head and protruding keystone looks like a modification. The attached hall is dated 1901. Low, of yellow brick and stone, with a domed entrance block and taller hall with restrained Baroque motifs."

From 'The Buildings of England - Lancashire: North' (2009) by Hartwell and Pevsner. p.435.
