"St Anne's Lifeboat House was erected next to the Methodist Chapel, Eastbank Road in 1880 and the first lifeboat, the Laura Janet, arrived the following year. It was this lifeboat that went down with all hands in the attempt to rescue the German barque Mexico in December 1886. All but two of the 16 crew in the Southport lifeboat also perished."
The image appears as image no 50 in "Lytham St Annes: a pictorial history" (1995) by Robert Haley with the above description. The station was opened on 24th September 1881.
