The foundation year for the hospital was 1913. It closed in 1975. Between 1929 and 1951, it was also known at "Elswick Sanatorium". Up until 1948 it was an isolation hospital for patients with tuberculosis. After 1948, it was used to care for patients with more general maladies. The postcard is addressed to a Miss Yuson, c/o Mrs.Briggs, Rawden House, Cavendish Road, Morecambe. The message reads: "Hope you are having nice weather and a good time. with love Cissy Salthouse."
