General notes
The Ansdell Institute is on Woodlands Road, Ansdell, and is so-named in deference to Richard Ansdell R.A., who lived in the area in the mid-19th century.

"Ansdell Institute, 1909, by G H Willoughby. Spare Jacobean Style with plenty of orange terracotta to contrast with the red brick, and an entrance with columns and urns. The attached public hall, slightly more baroque, has a screen with an arched entrance flanked by arched windows divide by paired sriped pilasters."
