General notes
User comments: 'The term Gobbin is thought to derive from the Coal Mining industry. Until the 1920s there was a big mine - the Town Bent Pit - at the end of Roe Greave Road, and there was also a lot of Open Cast coal mining on the rural fringes of the town, e.g. in the Green Haworth area.

The significance of the Gobbin Lamp (this is a replica of the original) is that if you, as an Oswaldtwistle resident, were born "above the lamp", then you are a true Gobbiner! There sadly isn't a special name for those of us who were born "below the lamp!" ' 02/04/2024.
