Simon Washington, the landlord of the Old Dog Inn, Up Holland, collected George Lyon's body from Lancaster after he was hanged for a robbery at Westwood House, Wigan in April 1815. Local people met the body at Orrell Post, and by the time they had reached Up Holland (via Gathurst Bridge, Dangerous Corner and Roby Mill) the crowd had swelled to several thousands.
