Castle Gateway. Cottages lined what had once been the castle moat. In one of these lived John Henderson, shoe maker and amatuer artist. His son the artist Cornelius Handerson was born there.
The cottages obscured the view of the gatehouse and in 1876 a subscription was raised to demolish them to improve the view.
