The butchers first opened in 1911 by Fredrick Wigglesworth. The shop was originally a Grocers run by a Mr. F. Seymour from 1902 -1910.
F. Wigglesworth Family Butchers became one of the oldest businesses in Nelson, still open in 2008 despite the demolition of the majority of the surrounding residential housing and the opening of a Morrison's Supermarket below the shop in the late 1990s
