Preston Guild 1902. Whiteside girls dressed for the Costume Ball. Left to righ: Miss May (aged 10-11) in heraldic costume displaying the arms of the Earl of Derby; Miss Florrie (aged about 5) dressed as 'summer'; Miss Ada (almost 8) representing 'night'. These costumes were designed by the donor's grandfather James Whiteside and made to order. Parts of them still survive (A.J.Stewart 3rd Oct.1996).
