General notes
This was the house for many centuries of the Rishton family, who are known to have resided at Lower Antley Hall from 1423 to 1728, when it was sold to the Rev. Roger Kay of Bury. The hall, which was demolished by Councillor Joseph Critchley (died 1894), was rebuilt in 1614, the date on the stable wall. It was a fine example, with its gabled wings and mullioned windows, of a hall which housed the lesser gentry of the 17th century. It was situated near the railway line between Lonsdale Street and Newark Street, Accrington.
