The Sale Wheel is a feature of the River Ribble below Dinckley on its left bank and the woodland at Dewhurst. In this area the river has a very sharp right hand, then an equally sharp left turn. In flood, this generates a circular current, whirlpool-like covering the whole of the curve and reminding the visitor of a revolving wheel.
