This photograph of St. James's Street was taken from the junction with Manchester Road in the mid-1950's. Gone are the tram lines of the early 1900's, and have been replaced by cars and buses. Ten years later the street changed dramatically again, when the shops and pubs on the right hand side of the road were demolished as part of a town centre redevelopment programme.
