General notes
(Queen) Victoria Hospital opened by Prince Albert Victor 18.10.1886, "Burnley Victoria Hospital a Century of Care 1886-1986" Ed. Wm. Ashworth and R. Frost dates this image as "Turn of the Century". Miss Janet Lindsay was Matron from 1898 - 1921. In 1900 Miss Hoghton is described as Deputy Matron and Miss Carpenter as Sister so these may be the two nurses with darker belts? The heavily bearded gentleman may be Dr. John Brown a very prominent local doctor and honorary/consutant surgeon and one of the other gentlemen may be Dr. Sinclair, House/consultant surgeon from 1891 for many years.
